Kelly Clarkson’s November 2016 Studio Updates: Album Out Next June
Kelly Clarkson is hard at work recording her 7th studio album. After 14 years with RCA, she signed with Atlantic Records earlier this year, and her next album is going to be soulful pop rather than the pop rock we’re used to hearing from her. She shared plenty of studio updates in July, August, and September. Last month, Kelly was busy promoting her new children’s book, River Rose And The Magical Lullaby. During the many interviews about the book, she talked extensively about her new music, too. In November, we learned about another songwriter working with Kelly, what classic singers the new music sounds like… and when the album will like be out.
First up is songwriter Sebastian Kole, who co-wrote Alessia Car’s hit, “Here.” Early in November, he told People that he’s working on Kelly’s new album, too:
[Kelly] is such a sweetheart! If she goes with some of the stuff that we’ve been working on, it is going to be phenomenal. And if she doesn’t go with it, it’s gonna be even more phenomenal because that means she picked a better song than me. One way or another, it’s gonna be great.
Kelly also spoke to People, confirming that the single should be out in April. She even revealed that they plan to release the album in June. She described her music further:
It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever done. It’s the first time I got to pick my label, because I just got out of my [American] Idol contract. I’ve been dying to make this record since Idol.
It’s very much my personality. I think it’s very much what people expected from me off of watching me on Idol. I sang all these Aretha [Franklin] things, I love Tina [Turner], I love Mariah [Carey], I love Whitney [Houston]. And I think it’s very much what people expected in the first place. I love all my stuff that I’ve done but this is the record that has been in me since junior high. And that music from when I was in junior high is now coming back [into style] — like our 15-year-old listens to R&B that I listened to in high school.
We’re still working on it, but we have a good batch of songs already and I can’t wait to sing them live. They’re amazing. After having a career for so long, it’s so weird that nobody knows [my sound] yet, so it’s going to be so good. It’s definitely a different chapter.
Kelly went on to talk about working with her husband, Brandon Blackstock, who is also her manager. Read more at People.com.
Last month, Kelly said her new music would sound like “Love On The Brain” by Rihanna (which she covered). This November, Kelly made some more comparisons:
Listening 2 songs 4 my album we're working on #mariah meets #aretha meets #whitney meets #mefromidoldays meets #2017 meets #yallaintready ?
