At the beginning of March, Avril Lavigne announced that she has signed with BMG to release her upcoming sixth album, which she promises will come out sometime in 2017. As she told Billboard in the announcement, she’s been pushing herself as a songwriter, and has at least one song in mind that may be the lead single. It tackles her battle with Lyme disease that has kept her out of the spotlight the last few years. At the time, Avril was finishing up a few songs and looking for a producer for the album.
Avril has shared plenty of behind-the-scenes looks at her writing and demoing process so far, even revealing some lyrics for songs presumably titled “Warrior” and “Crush.”
Since her BMG announcement, Avril has continued to share sneak peeks. Here’s the latest from Avril’s studio between March and May 2017:
Avril began writing and demoing new music in 2015, if not earlier, and has worked with her ex-husband, Chad Kroeger of Nickleback. She says the new music will reflect her personal and health changes. Based on the lyrics she’s shared so far, it sounds like her new songs will be empowering. Her 2015 charity single, “Fly,” may be a hint of the direction she plans to go. Musically, it seems that Avril may be going in a more raw, instrument-driven direction.
Only time will tell, but Avril’s sixth album is sure to be a stunning comeback! Hopefully a new single will be out soon enough.
A new album isn’t the only thing Avril’s been working on recently. She signed on to voice Snow White in an upcoming animated film called Charming, out this summer. The movie will also come with a new song, “Trophy Boy,” written by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump and sung by Avril, Ashley Tisdale, and G.E.M. In January, fans got to hear her new song “Listen” with the Japanese band, One Ok Rock. It appears on their album, Ambitions, out on January 11th.
There’s plenty going on for Avril this year. Keep checking back here for all the latest Avril Lavigne music news. More album details should be available soon.
