Billie Joe Armstrong’s New Band The Longshot Shares Self-Titled Debut EP

Just last week, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong began teasing music from his new side project, The Longshot. Today, the mysterious band released their self-titled debut EP! The Longshot includes three new songs: “Love Is For Losers,” “Taxi Driver,” and “Chasing A Ghost.”

Old-school Green Day fans will surely love the three songs. The music highlights the standard guitar, bass, and drums band sound. The garage rock and punk style is most comparable to Green Day’s earlier work and ¡Uno! – straight to the point but still infectious. Listen to all three tracks from The Longshot below:

Although The Longshot isn’t on Spotify, you can download it from iTunes now. This debut EP is just our first taste of the band, and we’ll likely get a full-length album soon.

Fans need not worry about the fate of Green Day. Indeed, Green Day is famous for starting up new side projects between albums. Before American Idiot, they played as The Network. Before 21st Century Breakdown, they performed as Foxboro Hot Tubs. Lately, the band has been touring as The Coverups and playing varied covers of others’ music. And while Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool aren’t involved with The Longshot, Billie Joe Armstrong has long played with his side band Pinhead Gunpowder.

Green Day has kept busy these past few years. After releasing Revolution Radio in 2016, last November they launched their second greatest hits compilation, God’s Favorite Band. It included one new song, “Back In The USA.”

It will probably be at least a year before we get another Green Day record. For now, let’s enjoy Billie Joe’s new band. Enjoy the new EP, and stay tuned for more on The Longshot in the coming weeks.
