Gwen Stefani Working with Diplo on New Solo Album

Rumors that Gwen Stefani is working on a new solo album have been swirling since earlier this year. She appeared for a surprise performance of “Hollaback Girl” with Pharrell at Coachella in April, and he made it sound like she was making a return to music. Gwen has also signed on to the next season of The Voice, where she will fill in for Christina Aguilera as judge. A few news outlets have confirmed through unnamed “reliable sources” that Gwen is recording new solo music. Now we have one more clue on that front: DJ and producer Diplo mentioned that he is working with Gwen on her new album.

In a recent interview with Idolator, Diplo was describing some artists he is currently working with, and Gwen’s name came up. All Diplo said was, “Done some stuff for Gwen Stefani for her new record possibly.” That’s it. No details or specifics, just the fact that he has been working on new music for a new album.

Fans have been anxious for some new music from Gwen for a while now. Her last solo record, The Sweet Escape, came out in December 2006, and had nearly as much success as her first solo effort. Gwen returned to No Doubt to release Push And Shove, their 4th studio album as a band, in 2012. Their comeback album was not a huge success, and the era was cut short. At the time, Gwen insisted that she would never do another solo album – she said the solo records went on longer than she expected, and that it felt more natural for her to be back with her original bandmates. But in spite of declaring “never again,” it seems Gwen may have changed her mind.

Whether she releases music solo as Gwen Stefani or as part of No Doubt, we are behind her 100%. Both acts have produced some amazing songs, and her fans will surely follow her into her next musical phase.
