Just last week Gavin DeGraw surprised fans with a new single called “You Got Me.” It comes from the film Dolphin Tale 2, in theaters this September, and was written by Diane Warren. “You Got Me” is a touching and inspirational song in which the singer promises to be there for you through thick and thin.
The music video features shots of Gavin recording the song in the studio, interspersed with clips from the movie. Check it out:
Gavin spoke about the song in a recent interview with Yahoo Music. “You Got Me” is the first song he’s ever released that was written entirely by another writer. Although he generally prefers to write his own music, in this case he made an exception:
As a songwriter, I’m always hesitant to release someone else’s song. Then about two months ago, Diane sent me this beautiful song she wrote for the movie Dolphin Tale 2 called ‘You Got Me,’ and I just connected with it. For me it was undeniable, and I was hooked.
He also talked about Dolphin Tale 2:
The song and the film make for a beautiful pairing. One of the things that appealed to me about the movie was the type of work the dolphin does working with wounded warriors and kids who need help. That’s really amazing stuff. Helping veterans and people in need is really important.
You can buy “You Got Me” on iTunes now. Gavin DeGraw is currently on tour in support of his last record, Make A Move, but says he is already writing songs for his next album. Keep checking back here for more updates on Gavin DeGraw and your other favorite artists.
