It’s been 8 years since Gwen Stefani released her last solo album, and now, after nearly a decade, she’s just debuted her first solo single since 2007. “Baby Don’t Lie” has a driving, tribal sound and a reggae-influenced beat, and Gwen’s vocals have new inspiration too – at times she almost sounds like Rihanna or Shakira. The song was co-written by Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco, and Noel Zancanella, and their signature drum beat, synths, and “ooh”s make that clear. But “Baby Don’t Lie” is also personal and centered on relationship struggles – a recurring theme in Gwen’s lyrics.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest this morning, Gwen revealed that “Baby Don’t Lie” was the first song she finished for her new album. While the song discusses a difficulty in her relationship, she assures that it was inspired by past events.
Gwen Stefani reportedly filmed a music video for “Baby Don’t Lie,” and while a preview of it will be aired on tonight’s episode of The Voice, the full video will premiere tomorrow. Gwen worked with longtime collaborator Sophie Muller on the video.
“Baby Don’t Lie” is the lead single from Gwen’s upcoming third solo album. She was tentatively aiming for a December release, but this has been unconfirmed; the album may have been delayed to early 2015. This will be Gwen’s first solo album since The Sweet Escape, released in 2006. She has since reunited with No Doubt (they released their album Push And Shove in 2012), and now Gwen seems to be juggling two musical careers – both solo and with the band. Gwen has been working with her bandmates on a new No Doubt album as well – that will most likely be released later in 2015.
You can buy “Baby Don’t Lie” on iTunes now, and get ready to see its video tomorrow! Gwen’s new album will be dropping soon, but you can catch up on all the info we have about it over on our full recording recap page. Keep checking back here for more of the latest news on Gwen Stefani and No Doubt.
