Is Green Day Officially Recording A New Album?
It’s been a while since we got any new music from Green Day. After releasing their impressive trilogy of albums in 2012, all we’ve gotten are a demos compilation and a Billie Joe + Norah Jones covers record. Green Day was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last spring, and their long-awaited American Idiot documentary came out in October.
Last April longtime producer Rob Cavallo told Kerrang that he’d heard five “fantastic” new songs Billie had written and demoed. He said that Billie was “at the top of his game.” Billie confirmed to Rolling Stone that he had 4-5 songs, adding that he was taking things slow and making sure each moment was inspired. The band has since been quiet about new music… until now.
Billie Joe Armstrong just posted a new picture on Instagram of him evidently recording vocal tracks in the studio. Finally, it looks like a new Green Day album is officially on the horizon! His caption simply reads “January 2016.”
With any luck, Green Day will have a new album out by fall this year. They’ll likely be in the studio for the next few months, recording and possibly still writing new music. Hopefully they’ll keep us in the loop about their progress, as they did while recording the trilogy four years ago.
Stay tuned for plenty of Green Day news in the coming months. Keep checking back here for all the latest details on their new album.
