Garbage Unveils Music Video For New Single, “Empty”

Garbage just released their new single “Empty” last month, the first single from their upcoming sixth studio album, Strange Little Birds. After a few weeks of teasing, the “Empty” music video is finally out for all to enjoy.

There has been talk of Garbage’s new album having a similar vibe to their 1995 debut album, and the music video is no different. The “Empty” video could have been filmed in the ’90s when Garbage was just getting started. It’s simplistic, showing the band performing the whole song in an empty warehouse. Singer Shirley Manson is front and center, catching the eye with her bright pink hair instead of the usual fiery red. Flashing lights, a dizzying camera, and the pure magnetism of the band keep the video interesting.

The “Empty” music video was directed by Sam Bayer; Garbage has not worked with him since the ’90s, when he directed their videos for “Vow,” “Only Happy When It Rains,” and “Stupid Girl” – all from their self-titled debut album. Sam Bayer is also known for directing Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and a number of Green Day music videos from American Idiot onwards.

“Empty” has a throwback feel that Garbage fans will surely love. Check it out below:

Garbage’s new album, Strange Little Birds, will be released on June 10th; you can pre-order it on iTunes now and get an instant download of “Empty.” The album will feature 11 tracks, although certain vinyl editions of Strange Little Birds will come with some bonus tracks; there is no word on if the songs will be available digitally or on CD. We still have a few weeks left before the album will be out, so be sure to read up on everything we know about the making of Strange Little Birds, and keep checking back here for all the latest Garbage music news.
