Green Day has been hard at work in the studio for most of 2016, and now fans are just days away from hearing some of that new music. Green Day’s forthcoming single, “Bang Bang,” will be premiering on August 11th! Billie Joe Armstrong took to Instagram to announce the big news:
Billie Joe’s announcement actually comes just hours after the popular fan site, Green Day Authority, broke the news. As they already reported, the Philadelphia radio station 93.3 WMMR had announced on air that they would be playing “Bang Bang” on August 11th; the station confirmed the news for GDA. This will be the band’s first new single since 2012.
It’s already been four years since Green Day released their ambitious (and underrated) trilogy of albums. The band has kept busy in the years since though, releasing a demos compilation and three documentaries (for the trilogy, their 2004 album American Idiot, and that album’s musical of the same name), not to mention Billie Joe’s movie appearances and collaboration with Norah Jones. There have also been a few new company launches, a marriage, two cases of cancer, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction…. needless to say, the band members have been very busy.
Green Day’s upcoming 12th studio album is expected out this fall, and details are sure to follow soon. We should also be learning more about “Bang Bang” leading up to its fast-approaching debut date of August 11th. In the meantime, you can read up on all we knew about the upcoming album.
