We’re “So Close” To New Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness Album
Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness is always generous with the promo singles in the lead-up to a new album. His second record under this moniker, Zombies On Broadway, will be out in just one month, and we’ve already heard three of its songs. Our fourth taste of the new album comes with “So Close.”
“So Close” is the most pop track so far, similar to the sound of Andrew McMahon’s Pop Underground EP. The spry verses build up to intense choruses. Andrew strains his vocals as he sings out the title, describing the teetering position between all and nothing. Being on that fence, it’s no surprise that he sounds urgent and passionate. It’s a track that may come as a shock at first, especially in contrast to his previous preview of “Walking In My Sleep,” but it’s also perhaps the best promo single yet. Check out the lyric video below:
Andrew shared his background on “So Close” in a Facebook post today:
It’s no secret that I enjoy taking risks and “So Close” was forged in the middle of such a moment. It was penned after the first Wilderness tour when so much in my life felt like it was on the verge of something; Some great victory or defeat. It was hard at the time to tell which. There’s a nervousness that goes along with launching new projects and it creates an energy and excitement that bleeds into everything. Personal relationships, self confidence, sleep and dreams. For me, “So Close” is a snapshot of life’s uncertain moments. Moments where every breath and motion is charged with anxiety and hope, fear and fearlessness.
Pre-order Zombies On Broadway on iTunes now and you will get instant downloads of “Fire Escape,” “Brooklyn, You’re Killing Me,” “Walking In My Sleep,” and “So Close.”
