Kelly Clarkson Country Demo “Soap & Water” Snippet Leaks

Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to country music. She boasts numerous country duets, not to mention a couple solo country singles of her own. Kelly has also talked about releasing a country album a few times, and with a few country leaks floating around the internet, fans are rightfully excited to hear it. Our latest leak is a partial recording of a song called “Soap & Water.” The 30-second demo only features the chorus, but it sure sounds good.

Listen to the partial demo of “Soap & Water” below:

“Soap & Water” was likely recorded around 2013, but we don’t have information on who wrote it.

In 2007, there were rumors of Kelly going country for her 4th album, the follow up to My December. A few songs leaked that suggested the more country sound – “Close Your Eyes,” “One Day,” and “With A Little Bit Of Luck.” However, All I Ever Wanted was anything but country.

Kelly joined country star Jason Aldean on his 2010 single, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” That song also appeared on the deluxe edition of Kelly’s 5th album, Stronger. That album’s first single, “Mr. Know It All,” was re-released with country production in 2012. Meanwhile, the album’s closing track, “Breaking Your Own Heart,” also sounded a bit country.

In 2013, Kelly released her first original country single, “Tie It Up.” At the time, she announced that it was the first single from her upcoming country album. However, after her holiday album Wrapped In Red dropped that year, Kelly became pregnant with her first child and the album was put on hold.

In 2015, Kelly released her 6th studio album, Piece By Piece. The songs weren’t country (though the closing track, “Good Goes The Bye,” started out that way), but Kelly promised interviewers that a country album was still ready for release. Apparently she has a full record of songs waiting to be heard.

Given all that, “Soap & Water” is likely from recording sessions in 2013. The sound is similar to that of “Tie It Up”. On the other hand, it could have originated as an earlier demo. 2010 leaks like “Mrs. Right” and “Whoever Did That Wasn’t Me” possessed the twang and story-telling we’d expect from Kelly’s elusive country album.

With a little bit of luck, fans will get to hear a full version of “Soap & Water” someday. Perhaps it will appear on the ever-delayed country album? We can only hope! Check out a list of song titles that could make it onto her future country release.

In other Kelly news, she recently released a moving cover of “It’s Quiet Uptown” from The Hamilton Mixtape, a soundtrack album for the wildly popular Broadway musical, Hamilton. Kelly is set to appear on Reba McEntire’s new religious album, Sing It Now: Songs Of Faith & Hope, on the song “Softly And Tenderly.” You can pre-order that album now ahead of its February 3rd release. Kelly also has a new duet with Aloe Blacc for the soundtrack for the new film, The Shack. You can pre-order it now ahead of its February 24th release.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s own soulful 7th album (her first with Atlantic Records) is slated for release this spring. Yes, it is a soul album, not the country record. We’ll have to keep waiting for that one! You can read up on all we know about the upcoming soul album so far. Keep checking back here for all the latest Kelly Clarkson music news.
