Lorde Is Back With “Green Light,” 1st Single From Upcoming Album ‘Melodrama’

Four long years after Lorde first appeared on the scene with “Royals,” she is finally back. “Green Light” is the first single from her highly anticipated sophomore album, Melodrama, expected out this spring. The song is dance pop, with rumbling, uplifting piano backing Lorde’s low alto singing. But the choruses kick it up into an uptempo, early ’90s electropop groove.

The song also comes with a new music video. After singing to herself in a bathroom mirror, Lorde steps out into the city streets and takes a ride downtown. She dances on top of the car, walks around a club, and moves to the music in her earbuds all the while. Lorde takes center stage in “Green Light,” allowing viewers to focus in on the lyrics. Grant Singer directed the video.

Though a release date has not yet been announced, the album is expected out this spring. Melodrama will serve as the long-awaited followup to Lorde’s debut album, 2013’s Pure Heroine.  That album launched her massive single, “Royals,” which won two Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. It also earned her a VMA for Best Rock Video.

You can buy “Green Light” on iTunes or stream it on Spotify now. Watch out for more news about Melodrama, including its release date and tracklist. Keep checking back here for all the latest music news.
