Muse Have Been Recording New Songs In The Studio
Muse have been up to something lately. About once per month for the last four months, frontman Matt Bellamy and drummer Dom Howard have shared some sneak peeks of them in the studio. Matt mentioned writing new songs (on acoustic guitar, matching his desire to strip it down for the next album). Meanwhile, Dom shared three picture of him apparently recording drums. It looks like we may be getting new music from the band faster than usual!

Meanwhile, a fan said that he met Dom and Matt. According to him, Muse has finished recording 3 songs as of March 13th. One of them is “quite heavy,” whereas the other two are not.
Muse’s last album, Drones, came out two years ago. The era started with their song “Psycho,” followed by singles like “Dead Inside” and “Mercy,” not to mention excellent lyric videos for promo tracks. The whole album was a return to their rock roots. It was simpler, rawer, and rocked about as much as they have since Absolution in 2003.
Late last year, Matt Bellamy said he he’d like to record a more acoustic album this time around.
The last album was written and recorded very much with the idea of how it is going to work in the show in mind. Moving forward, we might want to do something different because I feel like we’ve pushed the show to a really high point. I feel like I say it every time with each album but I feel like it might be time to actually do something a bit more stripped down.
On the other hand, he also said he wants to record a hip hop album. Back in January 2016, Dom even mentioned that the band might not release proper albums in the future. Instead, the band may release “small groups of tracks” or singles. We’ll see what format the band chooses.
How do you think the new music will sound? What do you hope to hear from Muse?
It’s not clear yet whether they are in fact recording a full album. Though the studio posts have been spread out across four months so far, it’s also not clear how consistently the band has been recording in that time.
At any rate, it looks like we’ll be hearing some new Muse sooner rather than later. Keep checking back here for all the latest Muse music news.
