Kelly Clarkson’s April 2017 Studio Updates: More Background Vocals & Ali Tamposi

Kelly Clarkson is hard at work recording her 7th studio album. After 14 years with RCA, she signed with Atlantic Records last summer, and her next album is going to be soulful pop rather than the pop rock we’re used to hearing from her. She shared plenty of studio updates along the way, and revealed tons of details in interviews. In January, a partial demo of a country song called “Soap And Water” leaked. In February, Kelly also confirmed that she’s in the final stages of her album. Luckily, being so close to completion didn’t stop Kelly from sharing plenty this month! In addition to hearing plenty of background vocals from Kelly herself, we also learned of a certain hitmaker who’s back with Kelly!

Ali Tamposi, the songwriter behind “Stronger,” revealed that she’s involved with Kelly’s new album. She was recently in Nashville writing with Andrew Watt and Brian Lee. She said of her new sessions with Kelly:

It was awesome. I’d met Kelly a few times before when “Stronger” [was a hit], but this was the first time I actually got to know her and spend some time with her. She’s awesome—she’s the most down-to-earth artist that I’ve had the chance to work with. She’s really great at allowing the writers to do their thing…she really respects songwriters. [Also] she will make tweaks to a record and won’t take any credit for it.

Ali also spoke about writing newer hits like “Let Me Love You” and “It Ain’t Me,” as well as other upcoming projects. Read more.

Meanwhile, Kelly was back in the studio with her backup singers:

Kelly also rediscovered her Snapchat and shared some short clips from the studio! On April 3rd, they were recording background vocals:

The next day, Kelly was singing alone. Maybe this song is called “So Soft”?

Although Kelly is known for her incredible powerhouse vocals, even she makes mistakes! And she’s not afraid to share them, either. This video is pretty hilarious:

Later on, Kelly was working with The Monarch production team, including Andre “Dre” Davidson and Sean Davidson.

Catch up on all we know about Kelly’s upcoming album, and keep checking back here for all the latest Kelly Clarkson music news, too. We’re sure to get more studio updates and interviews as Kelly continues recording the new album. We may get to hear the first single as early as this May, so stay tuned!
