Avril Lavigne Officially Begins Production For New Album

At the beginning of March, Avril Lavigne announced that she has signed with BMG to release her upcoming sixth album, which she promises will come out sometime in 2017. As she told Billboard in the announcement, she’s been pushing herself as a songwriter, and has at least one song in mind that may be the lead single. It tackles her battle with Lyme disease that has kept her out of the spotlight the last few years. At the time, Avril was finishing up a few songs and looking for a producer for the album.

Well, it now looks like Avril has a producer, because yesterday she officially began production of her upcoming album! She has finished the writing and demoing stage. Now Avril will work on officially recording the album, followed mixing and mastering. The production stage typically takes months, though it depends on the plan and readiness of the songs. With any luck, Avril’s album should be out by the end of this year. There’s no word yet on who she’s working with or who the producer is, but the album is coming along.

Avril’s last album, Avril Lavigne, came out nearly four years ago in November 2013. It was an eclectic mix, giving us masterpieces like “Give You What You Like” as well as unexpected (and polarizing) tracks like “Hello Kitty.”

Since then, Avril stepped out of the spotlight as she battled Lyme disease. She recorded a few new songs with other artists, including tracks with Nick Carter and Japanese band ONE OK ROCK. Avril also returned to her acting ambitions, voicing Snow White in the upcoming animated film, Charming, out this summer. For the movie, Avril also joined Ashley Tisdale and G.E.M. to sing “Trophy Boy,” written by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.

Avril has also been actively writing and demoing songs for her sixth album. She’s shared plenty of sneak peeks along the way, even revealing some lyrics for songs presumably titled “Warrior” and “Crush.”

Now that Avril is on to the final stage of album recording, it won’t be too long before we get to hear some new songs. We’ll likely get some more studio updates as they record the instruments and vocals, mix, and master the album. Catch up on all we know about the new record so far. Keep checking back here for more on Avril’s new music.
