Muse Announces Reissue Of First Two Albums, ‘Origin Of Muse,’ Out This Fall
In a new interview with Stryker, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy announced that the band is preparing an exciting new project. They are preparing a rerelease of their first two albums along with rarities and unheard demos. In 1999, Muse released their debut album, Showbiz. It was followed by Origin Of Symmetry in 2001. Their upcoming reissue is a play on that sophomore record. Get ready for Origin Of Muse, coming this fall!
Frontman Matt Bellamy explained the reissue to Stryker:
We’re going to do a sort of reissue version of [the first two albums]. It’s more like a story of the band, and we’re going to call it Origin Of Muse. It’s going to be like an autobiography, but an autobiography of the music side in terms of how we got to that point. And it also contains some rare, older material that people haven’t heard. The evolution that the band went through from when we were 16, 17 to getting the Origin [Of Symmetry] album out was quite severe. There were a lot of changes. It will be for the fans, it will be a pretty cool thing.
We’re working on it now. We’re digging through a lot of archive stuff from that time, and we’re trying to find a way of packaging it all together. The idea would be to get that out in the summer, I guess. Actually no, probably more like in the fall I’d say. At the rate we’re working at it. [Laughs]
Matt also clarified some things on Twitter:
I prefer the term 'terrible early demos' not songs haha. A few https://t.co/FNfiI8txaf

Yeah. First two albums plus early demos and rare stuff etc. A kind of autobiography of music. https://t.co/gFat2ZtKvJ

Origin Of Muse will be the first reissue we’ve gotten from Muse. It will likely include Showbiz and Origin Of Symmetry b-sides like “Jimmy Kane” and “Coma,” as well as early demos of released songs and completely unheard leftovers. There is no word yet on whether Origin Of Muse will also come up with a DVD of old video footage. Stay tuned for more details and a release date in the coming months. It should be out sometime this fall.
Meanwhile, Muse is also working on their 8th studio album, the followup to 2015’s Drones. They just released a new song called “Dig Down,” which will appear on the upcoming record. They’re still writing and recording, and promise the album will be out in 2018. In the meantime, we will likely get more songs as they become ready. Last November, Muse hinted that the new album may be more stripped down and acoustic… or hip-hop. Last week, Matt confirmed to MistaJam that they’ve been inspired by EDM and hip-hop that has been popular in the US lately.
Muse is currently touring North America with 30 Seconds To Mars and PVRIS. Check out tour dates and tickets while you still can!
