Gwen Stefani Shares ‘Truth’ Leftover, “Medicine Man”

Fans have been bestowed with tons of new Gwen Stefani music this year. After hearing two 2014 demoes and a full Christmas album of covers and originals, our latest treat comes in the form of “Medicine Man.” The track appears on the new compilation album Served Like A Girl, based on the documentary of the same name.

“Medicine Man” is one of the songs Gwen wrote for her third album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like. She first mentioned the song in a 2015 interview with Zane Lowe. As she explained, on a plane ride to New Orleans, Gwen had her headphones on and wrote ideas for a song. She then went into the studio with Linda Perry upon her arrival, and that ended up becoming “Medicine Man.”

In contrast to the polished pop of This Is What The Truth Feels Like, “Medicine Man” takes on a rawer sound. Acoustic guitar serves as Gwen’s only accompaniment on this emotional ballad. The lyrics are likely about her divorce from Gavin Rossdale in 2015, which Gwen openly wrote about in songs like “Used To Love You.” It’s a moving, gentle song reminiscent of the No Doubt album, Return Of Saturn.

You can stream “Medicine Man” on Spotify now, or get the song on iTunes along with the rest of its compilation album, Served Like A Girl. Offering tracks from artists like Natasha Bedingfield and P!nk, the set serves as a soundtrack to the new documentary of the same name, which highlights female veterans. The Served Like A Girl documentary will be available on DVD on November 7th. You can learn more about Served Like A Girl at their official site.

Gwen Stefani just released her first holiday album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas. The album features six original songs (including the title track, featuring Blake Shelton) and six covers of holiday classics. Last year, Gwen released her long-awaited third solo album, This Is What The Truth Feels Like. It came after scrapping a prior attempt at the solo record more than a year earlier. Though Gwen only released two songs from those 2014 sessions, two additional demoes leaked this summer.

For now, Gwen is feeling the holiday spirit as she promotes You Make It Feel Like Christmas. Another solo album may come in another year or two. A new No Doubt album, however, seems less likely for now, but we can always hope. Keep checking back here for all the latest music news.
