Last month, CHVRCHES shared their energetic new single, “Get Out,” our first taste of their upcoming third album. Two days ago, the trio announced that the record, Love Is Dead, will be out on May 25th. Along with the title reveal and confirmed release date, the band also unveiled the album’s tracklist. Love Is Dead will feature 13 songs in total:
- Get Out
- My Enemy
- Never Say Die
- God’s Plan
- Really Gone
Today, we get to hear the album’s fourth track, “My Enemy,” which features Matt Berninger of The National. The song starts off with a slow beat in the distance, gradually getting closer and louder as synths build up. Matt sings the first verse, defeated as he says, “your jealousy’s more blind than love.” At this point CHVRCHES frontwoman Lauren Mayberry takes over, singing the chorus from the accused’s point of view. The brightness of Lauren’s voice offsets Matt’s restrained timbre. “My Enemy” is a subtle, slow-burning track, showing a very different vibe from that of “Get Out.”
