Hoobastank Announces New Album, ‘Push Pull,’ Out May 25th

Six years after their last album, Hoobastank is finally back with album #6! Today, Hoobastank announced that their new record, Push Pull, will come out on May 25th via Napalm Records. Next Wednesday, fans will get their first taste of the new music with lead single “More Beautiful”; pre-orders will also go up at that time.

Push Pull will include 11 songs, two of which the band has already performed live.

  1. Don’t Look Away
  2. Push Pull
  3. More Beautiful
  4. Head Over Heels
  5. True Believer
  6. Just Let Go (Who Cares If We Fall)
  7. Better Left Unsaid
  8. We Don’t Need The World
  9. Buzzkill (Before You Say Goodbye)
  10. Fallen Star
  11. There Will Never Be Another

Two other known song titles, “Way Of The World” and “Chaos,” seem not to have made the tracklisting or underwent title changes.

Fans may have heard live versions of “Don’t Look Away” and “True Believer” already, as Hoobastank performed them in Japan last year. “Head Over Heels” is also a familiar title: It’s a cover of the Tears For Fears single, albeit with a “brawny, Bowiesque” flair.

A new press release for Push Pull also describes some of the other album highlights. Both the title track “More Beautiful” feature plenty of singer Doug Robb’s falsetto over funky, R&B-inspired music. “True Believer” and “Buzzkill (Before You Say Goodbye),” in contrast to Hoobastank’s earlier catalog, dive into mature relationships, often “examining the difficulty of keeping alive the sexuality that fuels them.” “We Don’t Need the World” and closer “There Will Never Be Another,” similarly, “explore the protective bubble and the memories which bind two people together.”

“Fallen Star” goes into different lyrical territory. According to the press release:

[It was] inspired by a memory of [Doug Robb] watching television one night and seeing a military family of a soldier who had died in combat. It made him think of the brave men and women who serve and even more so now the parents of those who serve. Being a parent now it clicked, the unbelievable sacrifice made by both soldier and their families.

Push Pull will mark Hoobastank’s first album in six years, after 2012’s Fight Or Flight. The band began recording it in fall 2016, though have since returned to the studio to additional tracks. Get ready to hear “More Beautiful” on April 4th! At the time, fans will also be able to pre-order the album ahead of its May 25th release.
