It’s been six years since Hoobastank released their last album, Fight Or Flight. Finally, with new record Push Pull scheduled for May 25th, the band is back with their first song in as many years. “More Beautiful” serves as our first taste of Hoobastank’s long-awaited sixth album.
Right off the bat, “More Beautiful” may shock some fans. The song isn’t the style of upbeat rock that the band has focused on in the last decade. Instead, this song harkens back to their pre-“Crawling In The Dark” days. For reference, you’ll have to reach back to their early indie release, The Sure Don’t Make Basketball Shorts Like They Used To. “More Beautiful” brings in their old-school funk sensibilities for the first time in decades.
Frontman Doug Robb uses a lot of falsetto on the song’s verses, crooning about his wife’s dwindling confidence in her appearance. But as the lively chorus hits, Doug affirms that, after all these years, she’s more beautiful than ever before. It’s a body-positive song that inspires confidence no matter your age or the changes you’ve faced. Love yourself and recognize your true beauty!

While some fans may balk at the supposed style change, we love this new song and embrace the band’s courage in exploring different musical directions. Indeed, creative freedom often leads to the most innovation. Keep an open mind, people!
