Avril Lavigne Will Finish Recording New Album In 2 Weeks
After three years of writing and recording, Avril Lavigne is finally about to wrap her long-awaited sixth studio album! With new music expected out in the next several months, we’re getting new details about what songs we’ll hear, what the sound will be, and what the promotion plan is. First things first: Avril is about ready to finish recording in just two weeks!
On April 11th, Avril shared an old 2017 image indicating that she’s almost done making the album:

On April 13th, Travis Clark of We The Kings appeared on the Zach Sang Show. Those who have been following the long process leading up to Avril’s sixth album may recall that Travis worked with Avril a lot during her early sessions in the last two years. During the new interview, he spoke at length about their collaboration. He revealed that three of the songs he co-wrote with Avril will appear on the album, one of which will be the lead single!
Travis explained how they wrote those three songs:
It was basically a blank slate. We were sitting there on the piano… and were just playing around with stuff. It all happened so organically. The songs are unbelievably incredible and they’re so real. And she had battles with the sickness [Lyme disease] and it made her tired and not feel like she might want to go on and be touring and stuff like that. And she just overcame it like a champion, like a legend. I was just so honored to be a part of helping the musical therapy from her side.
He continued, explaining how the new music will sound:
[Avril] had the idea of, she wanted this strength album. She wanted this album to mean more than those songs [like “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi”] and not just about a dumb boy. She wanted to showcase her voice, showcase her strength, and inspire others to have that same strength as they’re going through their different speed bumps in life. That’s what I’m all about – I love writing those anthemic songs that sound like, “Hey, you can’t perform this anywhere else but an arena”… We went into it like, Let’s make the biggest song ever.” It sounds cheesy, but we made magic.
Travis explained that his collaboration with Avril did not come from management. Rather, they met by chance through their mutual friend, Ryan Cabrera (who was living with Avril at the time). Travis was playing her piano, Avril enjoyed his music, and then a friend of hers suggested that they write together. Travis admits that he was starstruck and nervous about working with Avril, but they crafted some amazing songs together.
Watch the interview with Travis below; he talks about Avril at length from 42:25 to 49:10.
It’s awesome to know that three songs co-written by Travis Clark will appear on Avril’s new album! We’re thinking one of them is “Warrior.”
Shortly after this interview, Avril took to Twitter to clarify current details on her new music:
(1/2) I know there have been lots of rumors about the names of the track and the release dates but we are not quite ready to make those decisions just yet.

On April 20th, Avril attend the Race to Erase MS Gala. She spoke a lot about her upcoming album, assuring that she will officially finish production on it in two weeks. By May 5th she should be all done! As she explained in the below interview:
It’s a really powerful record. I’ve been working on this for three years, and I can actually say this time I’m going to be done with this album in two weeks, and I will put it out this year. I was ready, but I just kept going. And I’ve been writing songs that are really powerful and true and honest and sincere. I think people will really be able to relate to it. I’ve gone through a lot of personal stuff in the past few years, and so I’ve really drawn from that. This album is so different… and I’m producing, too! It’s more of a vocal record and just hearing the lyrics and really hearing the emotion in the vocal. It’s very piano-driven.
Avril talks about new music starting at 1:23 in the video below:
In another interview that same day, Avril again confirmed that she’ll be done recording in two weeks, promising an album by the end of this year. She talks about music starting at 1:05 in the video below:
Avril has described her upcoming album as being more rock this time around. She’s also returning to her roots in some ways. As proof, she co-wrote two songs with Lauren Christy, the songwriter behind “I’m With You” and “Complicated.” Avril has also worked with producer J.R. Rotem. Some songs fans may hear on album #6 include “Lucky Ones,” “It Was In Me,” “Warrior,” and “Crush.”
In non-album news, Avril has kept busy in the last couple of years. She recorded a few new songs with other artists, including tracks with Japanese band ONE OK ROCK and new production duo Grey. In time for the winter holidays, she released a cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Jonny Blu last November. Avril also returned to her acting ambitions, voicing Snow White in the upcoming animated film, Charming. For the movie, Avril also joined Ashley Tisdale and G.E.M. to sing “Trophy Boy,” written by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
Avril’s “next level” album will come out this year via BMG Records. Catch up on all we know about the new record so far, and keep checking back here for more on Avril’s new music. With the new album schedule to be finished next month, we should be hearing new music by summertime!
