Sara Bareilles Announces New Single, “Armor”
All week, Sara Bareilles has been promising some exciting news, and today she delivered. Sara just announced that her new single “Armor” will be released this Friday! We don’t know much about the song yet, but it comes with some pretty fierce artwork, so we can expect something bold and stunning. Sara previously described some of her new music as political. With a title like “Armor,” the lyrics could touch on current issues. Or, maybe it’s a love song. Who knows? We’ll find out on Friday!
“Armor” will be the first single from Sara’s upcoming album, due out early next year. Check out Sara’s single announcement below:
Update 10/25: This morning, Sara shared a short teaser of “Armor”! The song features upbeat low piano notes against a strong drum. It ends with the vocal line, “Hand me my armor.” Listen to the clip below:
Sara’s forthcoming album was produced by T Bone Burnett. Fittingly, the new music has a rootsy sound and will touch on politics, Obama, and love (for Obama, but also for Sara’s boyfriend, Joe Tippett). The imminent album will be Sara’s first in over five years.
Sara’s last regular album, The Blessed Unrest, came out in July 2013. Though it’s been half a decade already, Sara has certainly kept busy with other projects. Indeed, the last five years since then have been a whirlwind of activity. It started with a musical called Waitress, for which Sara composed all the songs. It debuted in Boston in summer 2015. That November, a selection of those new songs appeared on Sara’s themed album, What’s Insides: Songs From Waitress. That fall Sara also released a book, Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song.
Things didn’t slow down there. In 2016, Waitress went to Broadway; in 2017 – and again earlier this year – Sara took on the lead role of Jenna. She also played Mary Magdalene in NBC’s adaption of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, composed a song for the SpongeBob Square Pants musical, wrote a song called “Seriously” in light of the 2016 presidential election, and released “If I Dare,” a song she composed for the 2017 film, Battle Of The Sexes. She hosted the Tonys in June, is composing music for a new dramedy series called Little Voice (a reference to her major label debut?), and just received a prestigious award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Most recently, Sara teamed up with Common on a new song called “The Train,” in the indie film All About Nina. And next month, we’ll hear her take on “Tightrope” from the upcoming compilation, The Greatest Showman – Reimagined. All things considered, Sara Bareilles is a hard woman to keep up with!
It’s so exciting to know that our first taste of Sara’s new album is on the way. In just two days, we’ll get to hear “Armor” for the first time! Sara promises a full album in 2019, too, so get ready for that. Catch up on all we know about it so far, and keep checking back here for all the latest Sara Bareilles music news.
