Sara Bareilles Is Filming the “Armor” Music Video Today

Two months ago, Sara Bareilles shared the lead single from her long-awaited 5th studio album. Her new song, “Armor,” is a feminist anthem that will empower all girls and women. Its lyric video highlighted a rich cast of women and girls, but now it’s time for the official music video. Today, Sara is filming the “Armor” music video with director Diane Martel.

Earlier this week, Sara revealed on an Instagram story that she was in dance rehearsals for the video. Sara has danced in videos like “Brave” and “Gonna Get Over You,” so it will be great to see her moves again. Today, she also shared a sneak peek of her outfit: a bright pink dress. As she captioned, “Pink is for power”!

Later today, Sara also shared behind-the-scenes shots of her blue outfit and her “SOB squad” of dancers:

At this point, it’s unclear if this music video shoot will last one day or all weekend. And, more importantly, when will we get to see the “Armor” video? Our best guess is sometime in mid-late January. While we await the music video, you can enjoy the lyric video:

Sara’s last standard studio album, The Blessed Unrest, came out in July 2013. Though it’s been half a decade already, Sara has certainly kept busy with other projects. It started in 2015, when Sara released a book, Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) In Song. That year also launched Sara’s career in musicals.

Sara composed all the songs for a musical called Waitress, which debuted in Boston in summer 2015. That November, a selection of those new songs appeared on Sara’s themed album, What’s Insides: Songs From Waitress. In 2016, Waitress went to Broadway; in 2017 – and again earlier this year – Sara took on the lead role of Jenna. She’ll be playing Jenna for a third time this coming January and February 2019.

In other musical theater news, Sara also played Mary Magdalene in NBC’s adaption of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, composed a song for the SpongeBob Square Pants musical, and co-hosted the Tonys last June. Two months ago, Sara shared a cover of “Theodosia Reprise” for October’s “Hamildrop,” and last month her cover of “Tightrope” appeared on the new compilation album, The Greatest Showman – Reimagined.

More Sara Bareilles News

More in line with her standard pop career, Sara wrote a song called “Seriously” in light of the 2016 presidential election and released “If I Dare,” a song she composed for the 2017 film, Battle Of The Sexes. This September, Sara teamed up with Common on a new song called “The Train,” in the indie film All About Nina. Sara is also currently composing music for a new dramedy series called Little Voice (a reference to her major label debut?), and just received a prestigious award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame. All things considered, Sara Bareilles is a hard woman to keep up with!

Amongst the whirlwind of activity, fans have patiently awaited a new record. In October, Sara finally released her own new song, “Armor.” It’s the lead single from her long-awaited 5th album, due out early in 2019. The album was produced by T Bone Burnett. Fittingly, the new music has a rootsy sound and will touch on politics, Obama, and love (for Obama, but also for Sara’s boyfriend, Joe Tippett). The imminent album will be Sara’s first in six years. Catch up on all we know about it so far.

It’s exciting to know the “Armor” music video is so close! We expect that, around the time of its release, we’ll also learn more about Sara’s upcoming album. Keep checking back here for all the latest Sara Bareilles music news, and enjoy this incredible live performance of “Armor” as we wait.
