Last week, Alicia Keys served as an amazing host – and performer – for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Following the ceremony, Alicia surprised fans with a brand new song, “Raise A Man.” Today, that single gets a music video to accompany it.
“Raise A Man” is a smooth R&B love song, right in line with Alicia’s earlier work. Indeed, the song wouldn’t have sounded out of place on her first two albums. But instead of simply describing her love for a man, she also underscores the importance of raising boys well so that they grow into good men.
Matching the song’s musical style, the new video is similarly minimalistic. We find Alicia playing the piano as she croons the lyrics. Eventually we see that she’s not alone, as a group of musicians and friends join her in the studio room. The music video is simple yet celebratory and inclusive.

Alicia’s last album, HERE, came out in November 2016. In spring 2017 Alicia released a rarities EP, Vault Playlist Vol. 1. Since then, Alicia has appeared on several songs by DJ Khaled, Eminem, and Justin Timberlake, including the single “Us” with James Bay.
Earlier this month, Alicia hosted the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. In addition to hosting, Alicia also performed an incredible medley of cover songs, ending with her hit with Jay-Z, “Empire State Of Mind.” She then performed a medley of Motown hits along with Jennifer Lopez, Smokey Robinson, and Ne-Yo.
At this point, it’s too soon to know when Alicia will release her next album, but her studio inspiration is encouraging! With any luck, we’ll find out more about her new music in the coming months.
