Tom Smith Teases New Smith & Burrows Demos
Late last year, a full seven years after releasing their debut album together, Funny Looking Angels, Smith & Burrows reunited with a new song and promise of a new album. They played “All The Best Moves,” and the pair have been in and out of the studio since then. Today, Tom Smith (also frontman of the band Editors) teased the new Smith & Burrows demos they’ve recorded.
Indeed, over the past few months, Tom Smith and Andy Burrows have had plenty of time to write and record. In January, they said they said they had a “s–t ton of songs for this new record now.”
Smith & Burrows started back in 2011, when, that November, the pair released their debut album together, Funny Looking Angels. Comprised of covers and original songs, the Christmas album offered a unique take on the winter holidays. Eight years have since passed, and now the duo are finally preparing a follow-up album!
When debuting their new song, “All The Best Moves,” last November, Andy revealed that he and Tom were working on a new Smith & Burrows album. There’s no word on when that will be ready, or if it will also be centered around Christmas. If it will, we may expect to hear it late this year. However, considering the lack of festivity in “All The Best Moves,” it’s entirely possible the new album won’t be about holidays at all. Whatever the Smith & Burrows demos sound like, we’re sure they’re excellent.
Meanwhile, Tom Smith’s band Editors are also preparing an album to be released lat this year. They plan to put out a greatest hits compilation, and have already debuted a brand new song, “Frankenstein.” Tom indicated that they’ll include a few new tunes on the compilation album.
Their last album, Violence, came out in March 2018. That record launched their singles “Magazine,” “Halleluljah (So Low),” “Darkness At The Door,” and “Cold.” This year, they put out the companion album, The Blanck Mass Sessions, featuring alternative versions of the Violence songs. It included the previously-unheard song “Barricades.” Tom Smith also sang on a new song with UNKLE called “The Other Side.”
There’s plenty going on with both Smith & Burrows and Editors. It’s great to know the Smith & Burrows demos are ready; with any luck, we’ll get to hear their long-awaited sophomore album this year. For now, “All The Best Moves” will certainly hold fans over.
