Ellie Goulding Offers Nostalgic Acoustic Version Of “Sixteen”
Two months ago, Ellie Goulding shared her reminiscent new single, “Sixteen,” ahead of her upcoming 4th album. Today, “Sixteen” gets even more nostalgic and sweet in its acoustic makeover. Ellie shared the acoustic version of the song on all music platforms and uploaded a simple music video to go with it.
The acoustic “Sixteen” features Ellie strumming guitar, the only accompaniment to her voice. It’s a stripped down effect, drawing up images of being a kid with nothing but an acoustic guitar to help you express yourself.
In the video, Ellie captures exactly that image as she plays the song from her bed. She’s in a teen girl’s bedroom, complete with stuffed animals and a full-length mirror decorated in purses. She looks like she is actually sixteen again, playing her heart out with only her toys as an audience. The new acoustic version of “Sixteen” and its music video are an unexpected but wonderful surprise.

“Sixteen” is the latest single from Ellie’s upcoming fourth album. The new record should also include “Close To Me,” featuring Swae Lee and Diplo, and Ellie’s ballad, “Flux.”
In addition to previewing her forthcoming album, Ellie has also been busy with numerous soundtracks. In February she shared “Do You Remember,” which appears in the film Fighting With My Family. Early in April, Ellie also dropped “In This Together” from the new Netflix nature documentary series, Our Planet. And that’s not all! Also in April, Ellie released “Hollow Crown” from the Game Of Thrones soundtrack album, For The Throne. That’s a lot of new Ellie Goulding music!
Ellie’s long-awaited new album will serve as the follow-up to her 2015 record, Delirium. While we don’t have a title, tracklist, or release date for the forthcoming record, we expect to find out more in the coming weeks. In an interview last October, Ellie did reveal how the new music will sound. She said that most of the songs she’s written are quite sad, written about things that have built up over the years. Luckily they’re “not reflective” of how Ellie currently feels. In contrast to previous records, Ellie’s new songs talk about “quite specific things that have happened in my life, and something specific that happened to a friend of mine.”
Enjoy Ellie’s new single, “Sixteen,” and its new acoustic version and video. Keep jamming to the new song, and look out for details about Ellie’s upcoming album in the next few months. Keep checking back here for all the latest Ellie Goulding music news.
