Matt Bellamy Updates Fans On ‘Origin Of Muse’ Compilation
Way back in May 2017, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy revealed he and the band planned to release a compilation album called Origin Of Muse. It would include their first two albums – Showbiz and Origin Of Symmetry – plus unheard demos and rarities. But despite an anticipated fall 2017 release, that date came and passed with nothing. Now, Matt Bellamy has finally given fans an update on this welcome compilation.
In a new Instagram comment, Matt stated that the band aims to release Origin Of Muse by the end of this year!
In response to a fan’s question about the overdue compilation, Matt responded:
should be ready by Christmas! Warning: contains some painfully bad embarrassing early demos. Forgive us, we were teenagers.
In an May 2017 interview, Matt described the band’s plan:
We’re going to do a sort of reissue version of [the first two albums]. It’s more like a story of the band, and we’re going to call it Origin Of Muse. It’s going to be like an autobiography, but an autobiography of the music side in terms of how we got to that point. And it also contains some rare, older material that people haven’t heard. The evolution that the band went through from when we were 16, 17 to getting the Origin [Of Symmetry] album out was quite severe. There were a lot of changes. It will be for the fans, it will be a pretty cool thing.
We’re working on it now. We’re digging through a lot of archive stuff from that time, and we’re trying to find a way of packaging it all together. The idea would be to get that out in the summer, I guess. Actually no, probably more like in the fall I’d say. At the rate we’re working at it. [Laughs]
As of 2019, Muse’s first album is now 20 years old.
The band released their debut record, Showbiz, in September 1999. Given that this year is their 20th anniversary, now seems like an appropriate time to celebrate! And what better trip down memory lane than to put out Origin Of Muse?
Although nothing is confirmed yet, we’re excited to get the compilation in the coming months! While we wait, we at Hidden Jams will probably spend the next few months revisiting Showbiz, Origin Of Symmetry, and all of the early singles’ b-sides in preparation.
Muse’s last album, the stunning Simulation Theory, came out last November. It launched the singles “Dig Down,” “Thought Contagion,” “Something Human,” “The Dark Side,” and “Pressure,” plus videos for the songs “Algorithm,” “Break It To Me,” and “Blockades.”
More recently, Matt Bellamy shared his song “Pray (High Valyrian)” on the Game Of Thrones soundtrack album, For The Throne.
