Hayley Williams Not Sure What’s Next For Paramore
Paramore has been pretty quiet for the last year. After releasing their fifth album, After Laughter, in 2017 – along with the singles “Hard Times,” “Told You So,” “Fake Happy,” “Rose-Colored Boy,” and “Caught In The Middle” – the band members have been doing their separate projects since then. Drummer Zac Farro (yes, he’s back in the band!) focused on his other music project, HalfNoise, in 2018. Frontwoman Hayley Williams, meanwhile, has been working on self-care – in the form of social media breaks and getting help for her mental health – as well as her hair dye business, gooDYEyoung. But then, two months ago, Hayley prompted excitement among Paramore fans when she shared a series of three Instagram posts teasing “lovely things” and maybe some new music. So what’s next for Paramore?
In a new interview at Beautycon 2019, Hayley and her goodDYEyoung partner Brian O’Connor spoke about all things hair dye… and the future of Paramore.
Here’s what Hayley had to say about those Instagram posts:
To be honest, I am an awful, awful human for those Instagram posts that I left everyone hanging with. Number one, I fully believe in social media hiatuses. I think it’s so good for your mental health, and I personally really, really need it. He [Brian] knows more than anyone. But I didn’t want people to forget… even though, on the daily, Brian and I were working at goodDYEyoung – we’re working on new products and project for the company – I have always been a musician first. Brian is a stylist and colorist first; he’s creative in that way. My first creative outlet was music. And even though people are going to see me in this kind of space with Brian a lot more, I don’t want people to forget. So I kind of was like, ‘I’m just gonna leave this here… See you guys on the flip side!'”
So I really don’t know what’s next for Paramore. But the guys and I just had dinner the other night at my house. And I think we’re just really enjoying being friends and adult human beings at home by ourselves, without music, you know.
So, there you have it: What’s next for Paramore remains a bit of a mystery, even to the band themselves! But there’s no reason to feel alarmed. Paramore regularly takes breaks between albums (at least since the gap between Brand New Eyes and Paramore). While it may be a few years, we’re sure they’ll be back at it and making music again soon enough.
For now, be sure to revisit After Laughter and Paramore’s earlier albums. We’ll let you know if there’s an update on future Paramore music! As always, keep checking back here for all the latest Paramore music news.
