Lana Del Rey Previews “The Greatest” Music Video

Last month, Lana Del Rey revealed she was filming a double video for two new songs: “The Greatest” and “Fuck It I Love You,” both of which will appear on her new album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, out next week. Today, Lana previewed the video for “The Greatest” and announced both songs and the video will be out this Thursday.

“The Greatest” immediately sounds more energetic than Lana’s previous Norman Fucking Rockwell singles. The first part of the video sounds more like her Born To Die era than she has in years. But as we reach the final lines, we hear the melancholy sentiment in spite of the music.

Lana sings:

The culture is lit
And if this is it
I had a ball
But I guess that I’m burned out after all

Wasted
Don’t need it, just need a wake up call
Facing the music
The greatest loss of them all
The culture is lit and I had a ball
But I guess that I’m burned out after all
If this is it, I’m signing off
I miss doing nothing the most of all

In the one-minuted preview of the video, we see Lana aboard a boat and playing darts and pool in a coastal bar. This video is clearly more produced than those for “Mariners Apartment Complex” and “Venice Bitch,” released last September. Rich Lee directed the double video.

“Looking For America” & “Season Of The Witch”

Ever generous with her music, Lana released two additional songs on August 9th, although neither will appear on her new album. She wrote “Looking For America” following the back-to-back shootings in the US in the first weekend of August. Lana then released the song just a few days later.

Lana also recorded a cover of “Season Of The Witch” – originally by Donovan – for the new Guillermo Del Toro film, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. Rumor has it Lana may have a few more movie soundtrack songs coming out later this year.

Get ready to hear “The Greatest” and “Fuck It I Love You” this Thursday, along with the new music video for both. And just a week after that, we’ll finally get to hear all of Norman Fucking Rockwell! Catch up on everything we know about it so far here. The album will be released on August 30th. As always, keep checking back here for all the latest Lana Del Rey music news.
