Amy Lee Previews Cover Of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”

Evanescence’s Amy Lee recently recorded a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” from their acclaimed 1977 album, Rumours. Today, we can hear a 1-minute preview of the song in Xbox’s launch trailer for their new game, Gears 5.

They describe how Amy’s version of “The Chain” matches their game and their character, Kait:

This darker, warped version of the classic song twists the original’s meaning to embody the dark threat of Kait’s bloodline calling out to her.

Indeed, compared to the original version, Amy’s cover is far more dramatic and heavy, fitting the style of her own music perfectly. It will be exciting to hear the rest of the song. Evanescence promises to release the full cover of “The Chain” soon!

In a new statement, Amy shared:

I’m so proud to lend my voice to this reimagining of “The Chain” and to the epic world of Gears. I was really drawn to this story of Kait overcoming fear and internal conflict, rising up against evil and standing up to fight. Her story is one of breaking out with her own path and voice. I most definitely relate to that!

Amy’s Solo Work

Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” isn’t the only song Amy Lee has covered. In February 2016, Amy released a 4-song EP of covers she had recorded, featuring songs by Portishead, U2, Led Zeppelin, and Chris Isaak. One year later, Amy shared her solo song, “Love Exists,” a reworking of “L’amore esiste” by the Italian singer Francesca Michielin. Also that spring 2017, Amy released her original solo song, “Speak To Me,” for the film Voice From The Stone.

In 2014, Amy released her first solo album, Aftermath. It was comprised of music she wrote for the indie film, War Story. In September 2016, Amy released her second solo record, a children’s album called Dream Too Much. It featured both original compositions and covers that Amy recorded it with her family for her young son, Jack.

Amy’s most recent solo endeavor was appearing on violinist Lindsey Stirling’s new album, Artemis. Amy sings on the song “Love Goes On And On,” released today.

Evanescence

Amy’s band Evanescence has been making a comeback over the last few years, too. In early 2017, the band released a boxset of their three studio albums and b-sides, and later that year we got their electronic-meets-symphonic album, Synthesis. After plenty of touring, they put out Synthesis Live last fall.

Evanescence has already begun writing for their next record, expected in 2020. They’re early in the process, but we should learn more in the next year.
