Lana Del Rey Considers Releasing Covers Album, ‘Pacific Blue’

Lana Del Rey has been fairly prolific in her career so far. Although she just dropped her fifth studio album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, at the end of August, she has since thrown out two new album titles. Lana suggested her next album will be called White Hot Forever. Now, Lana is suggesting the release of a covers album someday, one she would title Pacific Blue.

In a new interview with the LA Times, Lana spoke about the many covers she’s released and what more could come. As she explained:

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I’ve been coordinating this concept covers album called Pacific Blue. It would be a very low-key thing, like acoustic Beach Boys stuff, Elvis, Chris Isaak. People usually think your career is over when you record a covers album or a Christmas album. But my musician friends and I are always playing covers. We could probably do that album in a week.

We’d love to hear Pacific Blue! Lana’s covers are fantastic, and getting a full album of them would be a treat.

Lana’s Many Covers

Lana has recorded and released numerous covers, and has performed countless more. Recall her versions of classics like “Blue Velvet,” “The Other Woman,” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” all included on her own albums. Lana’s also shared diverse covers of “Once Upon A Dream,” “Chelsea Hotel No. 2,” and “Heart Shaped Box.”

More recently, Lana got a big with with her cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time” – which also appears on her new album, Norman Fucking Rockwell. This summer, we also got her version of “Season Of The Witch” for the new film, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.

Norman Fucking Rockwell

Despite all this talk of Lana’s future albums, don’t forget that she just released her new album a month ago. Following a host of singles –  “Mariners Apartment Complex,” “Venice Bitch,” “hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it,” her cover of Sublime’s “Doin’ Time,” and “The Greatest” and “Fuck It I Love You” – plus plenty of teasing and a live debut of “How To Disappear,” Lana finally released Norman Fucking Rockwell on August 30th.

It’s an excellent album that blends the best of Lana’s talents while pushing her ever forward. Read our full track-by-track review here.

More From Lana

Ever generous with her music, Lana released two additional songs on August 9th, although neither appear on her new album. She wrote “Looking For America” following the back-to-back shootings in the US in the first weekend of August. Lana then released the song just a few days later.

Lana also recorded a cover of “Season Of The Witch” – originally by Donovan – for the new Guillermo Del Toro film, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.

In September, we got Lana’s new song “Don’t Call Me Angel,” recorded with Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus for the new Charlie’s Angels film. See the music video here.

Now, fans can look forward to Lana’s next album, White Hot Forever, and an upcoming covers album, Pacific Blue! She also has a film scoring project coming up, which will gift fans even more music. And on top of all that, don’t forget her poetry book, which should be out any time now…
