It’s been two years since Kelly Clarkson released her last album, the soulful Meaning Of Life. Since then, Kelly’s been super busy with a growing list of projects: coaching for 4 seasons (and counting) on The Voice; hosting the Billboard Music Awards 2 years in a row (so far); lending her voice to the leading character in the animated film UglyDolls; hosting her own talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show; launching a Las Vegas residency for 2020; hinting at an upcoming cruise ship gig… the list goes on and on! Nevertheless, the singer hasn’t forgotten her original job. Kelly has been busy recording her upcoming 8th studio album, said to be a mixture of Breakaway, Stronger, and Meaning Of Life. While the album isn’t ready yet (and who can blame her?), Kelly is hinting at an upcoming single, one she describes as among her favorite songs of her career.
As Kelly told POPSUGAR earlier this month:
I haven’t had enough time to do a full album, but this song is so powerful. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever been the vessel for. I love the songwriter, I love the message. It’s all-encompassing and really magical. It’s about inclusivity, connecting with people, taking that higher road, and being the best version of yourself.
Kelly also recently described the song to Billboard, saying it’s “one of my favorite songs I’ll probably ever do in my career.” She continued:
It’s a beautifully written song and one of my favorite writers in the world wrote it. It’s kind of all of these worlds colliding and … the whole experience has been amazing and hopefully our whole idea for the song pans out. I’ve never done anything like this in my career. All of what I’m saying isn’t making sense until you actually know what’s happening, so I’m sorry for the weirdness. But you’ll know by the time it comes out, like,”OK, she’s not weird. It does make sense.” It’s a new way. I’ve never really done anything like it.
Wow, we want to hear this song! Kelly didn’t say when we can hear this glorious new single. She also didn’t reveal the songwriter behind it or the song’s name. (Perhaps it’s “Step Up” or “Something New,” two song titles that came out earlier this year?) But it sounds like we’ll be getting it pretty soon. If not this year, with all the holidays now taking over, then certainly in the first couple months of 2020.
The only bad news here is that Kelly’s next album isn’t ready yet. That’s understandable, considering how busy she is nowadays, but we hope by this time next year it’ll be a highlight of 2020 albums with some of our favorite songs.
Stay tuned for more news about Kelly’s upcoming 8th studio album – there will surely be more news in the coming months! At this point, we expect to hear the album sometime in 2020. For now, keep checking back here for all the latest Kelly Clarkson music news.
