Simple Plan has been recording their upcoming sixth album since last summer, and recently revealed plans to finish recording in January. Our latest news – tease, more like – was a hilarious studio song the band took the time to record. Now, the band has revealed some more details: who will be the producers for the album! In a new Instagram post, Simple Plan announced that frontman Pierre Bouvier is co-producing the record with Brian Howes and Jason Van Poederooyen.
Brian Howes previously produced Simple Plan’s 4th album, 2011’s Get Your Heart On! He’s also worked with bands like Hinder, Puddle Of Mudd, and Hedley. Jason Van Poederooyen has co-produced similar music, often working with Brian Howes. They both seem like great producers for the upcoming record!

New Simple Plan Album
Late in 2018, Pierre Bouvier and dummer Chuck Comeau began writing new songs for the upcoming album. They’ve written with a few other songwriters, too, including Travis Clark of We The Kings. Early last year, Pierre gushed about the “phenomenal” new music they were working on. The men continued writing through spring.
Since then, Simple Plan has been in the studio recording album #6. They entered the studio in July, and in December, announced plans to finish recording the last four songs for the album in January. At that point they’ll be done recording, likely with just mixing and mastering left to finish up the album.
In a 2019 interview, Chuck said the album will likely drop in spring 2020.
They’re also recording differently this time around. In 2018, Pierre revealed that the band plans to self-produce this time, rather than working with a producer. Now we know that, while Pierre is co-producing, the band has two additional producers working with him.
Pierre also described two songs he’s particularly excited for fans to hear. Alas, he can’t say much about them just yet. We’ll just have to wait until spring to hear them!
“Where I Belong”
Last October, Simple Plan teamed up with State Champs and We The Kings on their new single, “Where I Belong.” The collaboration was perfectly timed, as the three bands embarked on a tour shortly thereafter. Last month, the song got its own music video. It’s our first taste of Simple Plan’s new music, and along with our new studio song, it’ll have to tide us over until the full album drops!
Simple Plan’s last album, Taking One For The Team, came out in February 2016. It gave us the singles “Boom!,” “I Don’t Wanna Be Sad,” “I Don’t Wanna Go To Bed,” “Opinion Overload,” “Singing In The Rain,” and “Perfectly Perfect.”
They’re untitled 6th album, due in spring 2020, will be their first in four years. It will likely include “Where I Belong.” But probably not the studio song! At least not in that form.
For now, catch up on all that has gone into making Simple Plan’s upcoming album. Keep checking back here for all the latest music news.
