Hayley Williams Offers “Cinnamon” Lyric Video
The stream of Hayley Williams solo material continues. The Paramore frontwoman is gearing up to release her first solo album, Petals For Armor, out on May 8th. We’ve already heard five songs on her new EP, and three of them got music videos. Following lyric videos for “Simmer,” “Leave It Alone,” and “Creepin,'” we now get a lyric video for Hayley’s third single, “Cinnamon.” It features footage of Hayley learning the choreography of the dance she does in the “Cinnamon” music video.
Hayley wrote “Cinnamon” with Taylor York of Paramore; Taylor also produced. Upon releasing “Cinnamon,” Hayley said, “I love this song so much – for now, I just want you to know it’s an ode to my home.”
“Cinnamon” starts with prominent percussion and an unconventional sung melody, “ahhh” made stranger with vocal effects. With drums and blips as her backdrop, Hayley sings of the emptiness in her home. She’s almost alone, apart from her dog. The eerie “ahh” serves as the first chorus, and energy builds up as we move into the second verse. The next time we hear the chorus, murmurs of “Cinnamon” fill in the extra space. A gentle bridge adds dynamism to the song, introducing higher vocals from Hayley that dominate the rest of the tune.
In the lyric video, we see behind-the-scenes footage as Hayley learns the choreography to the dance seen in the “Cinnamon” music video. She works with choreographer Tovaris Wilson in a dance studio, but we also see Hayley practicing at home. Finally, the lyric video shows a glimpse into the making of the music video, directed by Warren Fu.
