Tove Lo Shares “I’m Coming,” English-Language Cover Of Swedish Song
Tove Lo is a Swedish artist, but surprisingly, she’s never written a song in her native language. And she still hasn’t, but we’re one step closer with her new cover. She translated fellow Swedish artist Veronica Maggio’s 2011 hit single “Jag Kommer” into English, and today fans can hear Tove’s version as “I’m Coming.” Tove recorded it in Spotify’s headquarter studios in Stockholm for their new “Studio It’s Hits,” a playlist recently launched in the Nordics.
While Veronica’s original version is punchy pop, Tove’s cover starts off more ethereal. Early on we hear a reference to Queen Of The Clouds, Tove’s debut album – perhaps that record’s title came from this song? A drum beat and throbbing synth tether the heavenly song, but it’s still allowed to soar. “I’m Coming” is blissful pop about falling in love, and it reminds us of Tove’s earliest songs.
Tove shared a message about her choice to translate and cover the song:
This is a special one for me because it’s my English cover of one of my all time favorite Swedish songs, Jag Kommer, by badass queen @veronicamaggio. It’s the soundtrack to so many of my memories. I’ve always been so impressed with Veronica’s way with words. I could never write in swedish the way she can. It’s the perfect mix of poetic, “everyday romance” and making the Swedish summer time feel epic and melancholic all at once. I hope my translation does it justice Veronica 🙂 Tack vackra du för den här låten!!
