Hear BANKS’ Acoustic Version Of “Drowning,” Off Upcoming EP
It’s only been eight months since BANKS released her last album, III. Following the singles “Gimme,” “Look What You’re Doing To Me,” and “Contaminated,” BANKS is now sharing some new music with us. This Friday, April 3rd, she will put out an EP called Live And Stripped. It’ll feature acoustic versions of four songs, including three from III. But today, we get to hear its sole Goddess representation with a new “1 Mic 1 Take” version of “Drowning.”
“Drowning” was a single off of BANKS’ debut album, Goddess, released in 2014. In contrast to that ardent recording, this new performance of “Drowning” takes on a lighter mood. It builds on sweet acoustic guitar with a lively energy. BANKS reimagines the vocal hooks in the chorus, making them work for a live, acoustic setting. It’s quite different from that original, electronic-based studio recording, yet this live performance works well. It feels like a whole new song, one that’s more confident than angry.
The new version of “Drowning” also comes with a black-and-white video of the performance. BANKS dances as she sings, with her accompanying band hiding in the shadows behind her. Vertical beams of light add to the ambiance.

More New Music?
BANKS never stops making music. Following III and her upcoming Live And Stripped EP, we may expect to hear some brand new music in the next year or so, too. BANKS has already revealed that she’s writing music. However, she didn’t indicate a timeframe for when we might get to hear it. We’ll be patient for now, but we’re excited to hear what’s in store!
