Hayley Williams Celebrates BFFs In New Single, “My Friend”

We’re just one month away from Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams’s first solo album, Petals For Armor, due out on May 8th. We’ve already gotten an EP of five of its songs – simply titled Petals For Armor I – and now Hayley is gearing up to release another EP, unsurprisingly called Petals For Armor II. Following “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris” and “Over Yet,” our third single from the second EP is “My Friend,” and it’s out today with a new lyric video. Hayley co-wrote the song with Joey Howard, while Taylor York produced the song.

Sonically, “My Friend” has a similar low-key vibe to “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris.” In contrast to the sharp-edged first EP, these two songs are calming, warm, and earthy. On “My Friend,” the focal point is the lyrics, describing the little things true friends share. It’s an ode to Hayley’s closest allies, her BFFs, the people who have her back. It’s a sweet love song to friends and friendship.

The lyric video shows us glimpses into the recording studio and Hayley’s photo shoots, but the real highlight is actually her friends. We see one of her closest friends, Brian O’Connor – Hayley’s stylist, makeup artist, and business partner at Good Dye Young. We also see her musical companions, Taylor York and Joey Howard, as well as her photographer, Lindsey Byrnes. And of course her dog, Alf! It’s sweet to see the video highlight so many important people in Hayley’s life.

Touring & Paramore’s Future

Hayley previously announced an intimate solo tour across North America and Europe, was to begin in May. However, in all likelihood, the tour will be postponed due to coronavirus. You can still check out current date and locations – and purchase concert tickets – here, but realize these are very much subject to change.

Hayley has also confirmed that Paramore is not over. They will make music together again, though it probably won’t sound like her forthcoming solo material. In any case, Hayley indicated that this solo album is an important step that will only help the band grow.
