In late May, Lana Del Rey announced her plans to release her next album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, in early September. Now, with only one month to go, Lana just teased her first song from the upcoming record. “Tulsa Jesus Freak” is a title we’ve heard recently, and now we have some idea of how it sounds.
The clip Lana shared starts with her talking with an unidentified man while a cat meows in the background. Then they play about 35 seconds of the new song. We can hear the following lyrics in the video:
You should that stay close to Jesus
Keep that bottle at your hand, my babe
Find your way back to my bed again
Sing me like a Bible hymn
We should go back to Arkansas
Trade this body for that can of gin
Like a little piece of heaven
No more candle in the wind
You should come back to our place, baby
Don’t be afraid of our love

“Tulsa Jesus Freak” will appear on Lana’s upcoming album, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, expected out September 4th. Though we only have one month to go, it’s surprising that she hasn’t released a full single yet.
This is stark contrast to the lead-up to her last album, Norman Fucking Rockwell. Prior to its release in August 2019, we got about one year packed with singles and song previews.
New Audiobook & Future Projects
Just last week, Lana released the audiobook version of her first poetry collection, Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass. The physical and ebook versions will be available on September 29th, and the audiobook on CD and vinyl will come out October 2nd.
You can purchase Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass from the major audiobook providers here. You can also get the spoken poems on CD, vinyl, or picture disc from Lana’s official site. Note that they won’t ship until early October.
The physical book won’t be out until September 29th. However, you can pre-order a hardcover book or ebook from the major book retailers now. Both the hardcover and ebook will feature more than 30 poems – over double what was included in the audiobook format.
Next March, Lana will release her second poetry book, titled Behind The Iron Gates – Insights From An Institution.
For additional music, Lana has also mentioned her idea to release of a covers album someday, one she would title Pacific Blue. Furthermore, Lana has a film scoring project coming up, which will gift fans even more music. She’s composing for the upcoming film adaptation of Lewis Carroll novel Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.
