See Music Video for Halestorm and Amy Lee’s “Break In”
One week ago, eight years after we first heard this duet live, a new recording of “Break In” by Halestorm was released, this time featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence. Though a solo version of it appeared on Halestorm’s 2012 album, The Strange Case Of…, when the two bands toured together that year, they took to performing it as a duet. Now, after all these years, a studio version of “Break In” – as a duet with Amy Lee – is finally available. It’s our first taste of Halestorm’s upcoming EP, Reimagined, due out August 14th. Today, the newly recorded duet gets a music video.
Amy joined Halestorm in the studio last fall to record the updated rendition of “Break In.” It’s as tender as the original, building with piano and sparse guitar chimes. Lzzy Hale sings the first verse and chorus, bringing the emotions to life with her raw, tender vocals. Amy Lee joins in from the second verse on, adding angelic harmonies. She brings in extra doses of delicacy and power, further amplifying the song. It’s a beautifully done ballad.
The new music video takes us to that fall 2019 session. It’s simple but engrossing, showing Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee together in the studio, recording their vocal parts. It’s a video that fully immerses you in the song, and this is a song that deserves exactly that.

You can stream or download “Break In” featuring Amy Lee from all the major music providers here. The song will also appear on Halestorm’s upcoming album, Reimagined; pre-order it now ahead of its August 14 release.
In a recent statement, Lzzy Hale shared:
One of the stand out moments on this ep is a duet of our song “Break In” featuring the amazingly incomparable @amylee. Produced by Nick Rasculinecz, we recorded this duet pre-COVID-19, together in the same room, live, as a full performance from beginning to end. Amy brought new meaning to this song, turning what was once just a love song into a statement of unity and support for each other.
Reimagined is an EP of new takes on past Halestorm songs. Much like how Evanescence reimagined their most popular songs on Synthesis in 2017 – for them, taking them in more orchestral and electronic directions – Reimagined revives five of Halestorm’s songs. The EP also includes a cover of “I Will Always Love You,” originally by Dolly Parton but perhaps more famous in Whitney Houston’s version.

Amy’s Solo Work & Collaborations
Amy Lee has released a fair amount music without Evanescence in the last decade. In 2014, Amy shared her first solo album, Aftermath; it was comprised of music she wrote for the indie film, War Story. In September 2016, Amy released her second solo record, a children’s album called Dream Too Much. It featured both original compositions and covers that Amy recorded it with her family for her young son, Jack. Speaking of covers, Amy also released a 4-song EP of covers featuring songs by Portishead, U2, Led Zeppelin, and Chris Isaak.
In early 2017, Amy shared her solo song, “Love Exists,” a reworking of “L’amore esiste” by the Italian singer Francesca Michielin. Also that spring, Amy released her original solo song, “Speak To Me,” for the film Voice From The Stone.
Last summer, Amy appeared on violinist Lindsey Stirling’s new album, Artemis. Amy sings on the song “Love Goes On And On,” released in September. More recently, Amy joined Body Count for their new song “When I’m Gone,” released in March.
2020 Return Of Evanescence: The Bitter Truth
Evanescence has been making a comeback over the last few years. In early 2017, the band released a boxset of their three studio albums and b-sides, and later that year we got their electronic-meets-symphonic album, Synthesis. After plenty of touring, they put out Synthesis Live in fall 2018.
Last fall, they shared a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain,” with the music video following in January.
Now, Evanescence is working on their long-awaited 4th studio album, The Bitter Truth. After a full year of writing and recording, Evanescence has shared two songs so far: lead single “Wasted On You” and, one month ago, “The Game Is Over.” They’re now teasing a new song called “Use My Voice,” due out on August 14th. Their full album, The Bitter Truth, is expected out by the end of this year.
