Of Monsters And Men Return with “Visitor” Single & Music Video
It’s only been a year since Of Monsters And Men released their third album, Fever Dream. Now, the Icelandic band is back with a brand new single. “Visitor” is our first taste of a full album, due early next year. In a press release, they announced that we’ll be getting “a body of work coming at the top of 2021 in celebration of the group’s tenth anniversary together.” Exciting! We can’t wait. Luckily, “Visitor” is an excellent song to tide us over until then.
Frontwoman Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir shared a bit about the new song and video:
“Visitor” is a song about disconnection and being on the fringe of change, seeing everything you once knew disappear, and finding yourself in the role of the visitor. It was written and recorded when the world was a completely different place, but the post-apocalyptic world of the video seems fitting. We shot the music video for it in Iceland in the freezing cold of February right before the pandemic hit. We are so very excited to finally share this song with you. Much love.
“Visitor” comes in with a crash, big drums belying a rather haunting song. Nanna sings of eerie dreams about knowing someone, but they need to wake up before they disappear. Following the two verses and choruses, “Visitor” has an extended outro of Nanna insisting that her mother was wrong: She’s not afraid of the dark and doesn’t mind the ghosts.
The video opens on an older man walking across Iceland’s frigid landscape. He ends up in a warehouse, where Of Monsters And Men perform for a ragtag group of troubled souls. Their sparkling outfits and gear directly contradict the apocalyptic vibe of their setting.
