Gavin DeGraw is “Feeling So Good” About Upcoming Album
In early June, Gavin DeGraw revealed that he had officially entered the studio to begin recording his upcoming 7th album. He shared a few updates about the great time he was having recording, and occasionally still writing. But he stayed quiet all summer. Now, Gavin is back with some new updates from the studio, and it sounds promising! As he said himself, he’s “feeling so good” about what he’s recorded, and we can’t wait to hear it.
Yesterday, Gavin shared his view of the mixing console in the studio, writing only, “In the kitchen…”
Today, Gavin got fans even more excited with this new post:
Feeling so good about this new record.
Update 9/27: Special thanks to commenters MF and Jewels for this info: Gavin is working with producer Dave Cobb on the new album! Dave Cobb primarily works in the country and Americana genres, which fits with the new direction Gavin is going in for this record.
In an interview with Sweet 98.5 earlier this month, Gavin revealed that he’s finished recording the album, and it’s now in the mixing phase. He suggested that we’ll get to hear it sooner than later… before the end of 2020, perhaps? Gavin’s manger Billy Norris just shared a post about the mixing progress as of this week:
Gavin’s Upcoming Album
Gavin’s last album, Something Worth Saving, came out in September 2016. It launched the singles “She Sets The City On Fire” and “Making Love With The Radio On,” plus a live music video for the title track in September 2017.
It was around that time – in September 2017 – when Gavin’s mother passed away after a battle with cancer. In November that year, Gavin spoke about the “gospel” sounding songs he was writing in the aftermath of his mother’s passing. At the time, he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to finish any of those songs or if they’d appear on his next album. We predict that at least some of the songs on his next record will touch on this tragic subject.
We now know his songs will be somewhat “anti-pop,” instead leaning into the country and country-rock genres, similar to music by Tom Petty and Bob Seger. He also says he’s been writing the songs alone, perhaps indicating that he’s heading back to his earlier roots of his first three albums.
Gavin has been in the studio for nearly four months now, and we’re excited to learn about his progress. If he’s “feeling so good” about the new music, we’re surely in for a treat. Let us know what you think about Gavin’s upcoming album in the comments! You can also catch up on all we know about the album so far here. We hope it’ll be out by the end of this year; otherwise, early 2021 seems like a safe bet. As always, keep checking back here for all the latest Gavin DeGraw music news.

Gavin’s Father John Wayne DeGraw passed away July 2020. Also may be pushing finishing album back. We are so sorry for his loss, both his parents were so supportive and this must be very challenging. We Love you Gavin, praying g for you and we’ll wait for the new music patiently. God bless…
Yes, I was so sad to hear that his dad had passed away. And his mom passed a few years before that. All our love to Gavin – losing loved ones is so hard.
Last we heard, he’d finished recording his album around summertime and had previewed some to fans at a live show last fall. I guess it’ll be out sometime this year? We’ll wait as long as we need to!
