Hear Amy Lee & Bring Me The Horizon’s Potent New Song About Earth
Today, Bring Me The Horizon released their new EP, POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR. Its closing track – titled “One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death” – features Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee. That title is a mouthful, but the song is a powerful conversation about the devastating effects humans have on our planet. In a brand new interview, Bring Me The horizon frontman Oli Sykes told NME:
The idea of that song is that I’m mankind, Amy is Mother Nature and it felt like the perfect thing to have the mother of rock singing it. It’s saying, “This is the end of our world, so we need to try and find a new one.” [POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR] ends in a hopeful way. We hope that it will make people want to do something.
“One Day The Only Butterflies Left…” starts with Amy crooning softly but with simmering rage. She asks humans why they’re incapable of learning, why they keep making worse and worse blunders at the detriment of Earth. Indeed, our actions are killing the planet and mankind itself. After a potent chorus, Oli Sykes takes on the second verse, now from the perspective of a remorseful man who didn’t learn until it was too late. The duo sing the next chorus together, then it ends with a tormented outro.
The song comes with an animated lyric video. Against a backdrop of thorns and roses and the occasional butterfly, the lyrics appear as cutouts on the screen.

Recent Music from Amy Lee & Evanescence
Evanescence’s Amy Lee has done numerous collaborations in the last year or so. One year ago, Amy collaborated with violinist Lindsey Stirling’s on the song “Love Goes On And On,” released in September 2019. Seven months ago, Amy’s song with Body Count, “When I’m Gone,” was released. At the end of July, Amy’s newly recording duet of “Break In” with Halestorm came out; its music video arrived in August. Most recently, last month Amy appeared on the new song “Sakura Rising” with the Japanese group WagakkiBand.
Her band Evanescence is also recording their first album in nearly a decade. They’ve released three new singles so far: “Wasted On You,” “The Game Is Over,” and, “Use My Voice.” Their album, The Bitter Truth, is expected out late this year or – perhaps more likely – in 2021.
