Editors & Blanck Mass Have Been Scheming Again…
It’s been nine months since Editors frontman Tom Smith teased a project with Blanck Mass. They were “scheming” something back in March… and now they’re scheming again! In a new Instagram story Tom shared this morning, we can see three members of Editors — himself, Justin Lockey, and Elliott Williams — and the man known as Blanck Mass. We’ve asked it before, and we’re asking it again now: What are they up to? It it something for Editors’ next album? Whatever the project is, we’re excited to hear it!
This wouldn’t be the first time Editors have worked with Blanck Mass. While developing their sixth studio album, Blanck Mass worked on most of the songs they’d recorded. It ultimately led to their 2018 album, Violence. However, a year later, we got to hear those earlier versions of the songs on the special album, The Blanck Mass Sessions. It included the previously unreleased Violence song, “Barricades.”
The Latest from Editors
Editors shared their first greatest hits album, Black Gold: Best Of Editors, in October 2019. Along with 13 beloved songs, it also features three new singles: “Frankenstein,” “Black Gold,” and “Upside Down.” You can stream or purchase it from all the major music providers here. Be sure to check out the deluxe edition, which features a bonus disc of 8 new acoustic recordings of beloved album tracks. Additionally, every order of Black Gold: Best Of Editors on vinyl or CD from Editors’ official site comes with a bonus 8-track The Snowfield Demos CD. The Snowfield Demos is an extremely rare recording from 2003, before Editors were even called Editors. (Indeed, they went by Snowfield when they made that EP.)
Between April and June 2020, Editors digitally shared all four volumes of You Are Fading, the rarities compilations first included in their 2011 Unedited box set. The compilations include bonus tracks, b-sides, and other rarities from Editors’ first three album eras.
Tom’s Upcoming Album with Smith & Burrows
In addition to Editors, Tom Smith also occasionally makes music with his good friend, Andy Burrows. Nearly a decade after releasing their holiday album Funny Looking Angels in 2011, the duo are finally back with some new tunes. They’ve put out three singles so far: “All The Best Moves,” “Old TV Shows,” and, just this week, “Parliament Hill.” All three will appear on their upcoming album, Only Smith & Burrows Is Good Enough, due out in February.
