Ellie Goulding Joins Silk City on Disco-Styled Single, “New Love”

We’ve been waiting all week for this! Silk City just released their new single with Ellie Goulding, “New Love,” along with a music video. Silk City is the duo made up of producers Diplo and Mark Ronson, formed in 2018. Ellie previously worked with Diplo on her 2018 single, “Close To Me,” so it’s great to hear them work together again.

“New Love” glides in on a pulsing beat and gentle keyboard chords. Ellie sings the verses with just a hint of her raspy timbre, describing how she’s been getting over an ex. But as the chorus crashes in on a disco beat, we learn that Ellie is ready for a new love. It’s an upbeat single that inspires joy and optimism for romance.

The video opens in a strip club, where an androgynous Ellie Goulding acts as the bouncer. Music wafts in from the club: “Electricity” by Silk City and Dua Lipa, the last single Silk City put out in 2018. Then we finally make it into the main room, where Ellie — outfitted in a sparkling blue dress and a giant wig of blonde curls — sings on stage. Between her performance shots, we also see her enjoying her dressing room and see plenty of others in the club having a good time. The video also highlights diversity, a great component to this uplifting, danceable song.

Latest Ellie Goulding Music

Last summer, Ellie released her long-awaited fourth album, Brightest Blue. Between the main album and its bonus EG.0 material, it launched seven singles before its release: “Close To Me” with Swae Lee and Diplo, “Flux,” “Sixteen,” “Hate Me” with Juice WRLD, “Worry About Me” with blackbear, “Power,” “Slow Grenade” with Lauv. Last August, her song “Love I’m Given” got a music video, too.

However, Brightest Blue was also missing several songs Ellie has released in the year and a half leading up to its release. Solo songs “Do You Remember,” “In This Together,” and “Hollow Crown” didn’t make the cut; nor did “Return To Love,” her collaboration with Andrea Bocelli. Ellie had previously mentioned a song called “Electricity” (“about a friend who had been cheated on quite cruelly for a couple of years”) which was also noticeably absent.

Beyond pop music, Ellie has also stated that she’s working on an album of classical compositions. We’re hoping that will be released sometime in 2021.
