Of Monsters And Men Surprise Fans With Cinematic Ballad, “Destroyer”
After several fairly quiet months, Of Monsters And Men surprised fans with a new single today. They just dropped “Destroyer” along with a lyric video, also promising more music to come later this year. Following their song “Visitor” last September, it seems that the 2021 album they’d forecasted is still coming our way.
“Destroyer” fades in on cello, setting up for a brooding and epic song. Raggi Þórhallsson sings lead, describing the sorrow of being idle versus the solace of being heard. About 90 seconds in, the song crescendos into a stomping and cinematic piece, completed by strings and Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir singing harmony. It’s a slow but powerful song that’s contemplative and moving. It could work as the centerpiece of an album, but would also fit well within a dramatic movie scene.
The song comes with a somewhat unsettling lyric video, shot and edited by Cameron Stewart. In squared off footage, we see abstract statues and nature scenes. The words appear in front, sometimes with parenthesis and slashes adding confusion. Somehow, the spooky text formatting fits the vibe of the song.
In announcing “Destroyer” today, Of Monsters And Men shared the following message:
Our song Destroyer is out now!
We are so happy to have it out in the world and we’re looking forward to sharing some more music with you later this year
Much love . Takk fyrir tíu

A New Album?!
Last September, Of Monsters And Men shared a press release indicating that we’d be getting “a body of work coming at the top of 2021 in celebration of the group’s tenth anniversary together.” According to the band’s press release:
The single sets the stage for 2021 when the band will celebrate 10 years of being together with more new music and other exciting content for fans. It brings everything full circle for the band with a bold new body of work.
“Top of 2021” may have been a bit off, but we’re excited for what’s coming our way later this year.
More From Of Monsters And Men
It’s been two years since Of Monsters And Men released their excellent third album, Fever Dream. That record launched the singles “Alligator,” “Wild Roses,” and “Wars.”
Last July, Of Monsters And Men shared their cover of Post Malone’s “Circles” as a single. A month prior, they had performed it on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Enjoy “Destroyer” and its new lyric video! In case you missed it, be sure to also give “Visitor” a listen, because the band has more to come later this year. Catch up on all we know about Of Monsters And Men’s upcoming album, and as always, keep checking back here for all the latest music news.
