Today, Vogue Méxcio y Latinoamérica published a new interview with Shakira, in which the Colombian singer shared some exciting news about forthcoming music. Shakira has been recording over the past few months, and fans will get to hear one new song next month! A full album is expected early in 2022.
First, Shakira revealed that she’s written about some hard-hitting topics. In the past, Shakira has tackled politics in songs like “Timor” and religion in “How Do You Do.” Though it’s been a while since she sang about such weighty subjects, at least one new song shares some of her political perspective. As Shakira stated in the Vogue interview:
First I think and then I write. Sometimes I do a reflection immediately after writing something that involves some political opinion, to know if what I am saying is really going to have a positive or negative effect on people. I will think about it. I recently wrote a song with some political and social content and I’m pondering whether it’s really worth it or not. There are many things that I keep to myself. I understand that everything I say has a consequence and an impact on others, I try to be careful and prudent.
Although Shakira is being careful about what she puts out, we do hope that this political song will make it onto her album. We love hearing about important topics, and Shakira has proven in the past that she can do so intelligently as well as with musical finesse.
Upcoming Singles & Album
Shakira also spoke enthusiastically about the new music she’s making, calling it different from what she’s done in the past:
I have the feeling that I am about to do something different than what I have done before and more evolved on a sonic level as well. Right now I have a song that is the song that I have wanted to do for a long time. I am very excited and waiting, with great anticipation of what I am going to present and what I am going to continue doing.
Shakira continued, casually mentioning to Vogue that a single is coming out in just a few weeks:
I feel very energetic, eager to work and very inspired. I’m on full throttle, doing a lot of songs. I’m in the process of mixing that song that’s coming out in July. I just finished filming the video and these days I am dedicated to editing it, finishing mixing the song and preparing it to be released in July. I have high hopes for this song, high expectations and high hopes.
Songs will continue to come out throughout this year that will end up on an album that I think will be available for next year.
We can’t wait to hear the new song and see the video she’s already filmed for it. We’re also thrilled that more singles are planned for the rest of this year, with the album to follow in 2022.
