Doja Cat & The Weeknd Unleash “You Right” Music Video

Doja Cat just released her third album, Planet Her. Following the lead single, “Kiss Me More” with SZA, the second single from the album is “You Right” with The Weeknd. This is the second collaboration between the two, following last summer’s remix of “In Your Eyes.”

“You Right” is an atmospheric song that sounds dreamy and angelic. Doja Cat sings the first verse sweetly, but on the chorus, the rasp in her voice adds some edge. The Weeknd comes in on the second verse, crooning as gently as Doja Cat does. As with their previous collaboration, their voices work beautifully together here. Lyrically, “You Right” is about being a relationship but desiring another person. Doja Cat struggles with being loyal to her boyfriend versus going after this other guy. For his part, The Weeknd expresses his desire to steal her away in his verse.

The single version of the song, at only three minutes, feels a bit too short. Luckily, on the deluxe edition of Planet Her, fans can hear an extended version of “You Right.” It features an additional verse from Doja Cat – the original second verse, before The Weeknd was added to the song. This extended version is one minute longer than the single version of the song, filling out the track perfectly.

In the music video, Doja Cat appears like a Greek goddess in a heavenly palace. Her hairstyle and other imagery acknowledges her zodiac sun sign, Libra. Later, she falls from the clouds to an Earthly home, where her boyfriend plays video games by her side. But she’s still dreaming of another man. The Weeknd appears in the stars then, pouring water from a jug, symbolizing his own sign, Aquarius. It’s a great video visually.

The Weeknd has also shared numerous remixes of his After Hours songs. In May 2020 he remixed “Blinding Lights” with Chromatics; it was one of five remixes on his After Hours (Remixes) EP. He later offered two remixes of “In Your Eyes”: one featuring Doja Cat and, more recently, one with Kenny G. Last December, The Weeknd and Spanish singer Rosalía teamed up for a remix of “Blinding Lights.” Finally, just two months ago, Ariana Grande joined him on a remix of “Save Your Tears.”

Last summer, The Weeknd’s single with the late Juice WRLD, “Smile,” came out. We also got “Over Now,” a song he did with Calvin Harris. At the end of October, Ariana Grande released her latest album, Positions. The Weeknd joined her on the song “Off The Table,” their second of three collaborations together. In early November, The Weeknd teamed up with Maluma for a remix of “Hawái.”
