Ghost Shares Spooky ‘Halloween Kills’ Song, “Hunter’s Moon”
Spooky season is upon us, and you know what that means: horror movies, Halloween candy, and maybe some new music from Ghost. Well, you’re in luck on at least two of those items. The new slasher film Halloween Kills comes out on October 15th, but we can already hear the first song from its soundtrack, “Hunter’s Moon” by Ghost. It’s our first original song from the band in two years, and it’s the perfect way to kick off this autumn.
Acoustic guitar opens “Hunter’s Moon,” but quickly a drum and sounding bell usher in Papa Emeritus IV, admitting that his return has been a long time coming. The verse is atmospheric and dark, and then the pre-chorus injects new energy and power. Papa then growls, “It’s a hunter’s moon,” launching into a chorus defined by its winding melody. Later, chugging guitar, a slowed down breakdown, and eerie choir further elevate the song. Much of “Hunter’s Moon” recalls the sound of Meliora, and if that’s any indication of how Ghost’s next album will sound, we’re thrilled. This is an excellent song and a welcome return for the band.
The accompanying music video starts with a shirtless child facing a lake, as if intending to dive in despite the rain and cold weather. A man lurking in the forest adds to the feeling of unease. Then we see a small family – a mother and daughter – but the little girl has an imaginary friend; only she can see the masked kid she plays with. It’s not until the end that we see Papa Emeritus looking in the mirror, certainly up to no good. The whole video plays like a classic horror film – fitting, since “Hunter’s Moon” appears in a new slasher. Amanda Demme directed the music video.

You can stream or download “Hunter’s Moon” from all the major music providers here. Note that you can pre-order a 7″ vinyl single of it as well. The song will appear on the upcoming Halloween Kills soundtrack album, too. It’s possible that “Hunter’s Moon” may also appear on Ghost’s upcoming fifth studio album, though that is not yet confirmed.
Halloween Kills will be out in theaters and on Peacock on October 15th. It’s the 12th film in the Halloween franchise, and its sequel, Halloween Ends, will be out next year.
More From Ghost
Ghost’s last album, Prequelle, came out in June 2018, and in 2019, we got their impressively retro “Seven Inches Of Satanic Panic” double single. It featured two tracks: “Kiss The Go-Goat” and “Mary On A Cross.” However, the band has been quiet since then, privately working on their next album. The first new music we heard from them was their cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” earlier this month. However, “Hunter’s Moon” is their first original song in two years.
The band’s next album is expected out sometime in the next six months. They have already announced a US tour, extending from January 25th through March 3rd. They’ll be co-headlining with Volbeat and Twin Temple will be the opener.
Enjoy “Hunter’s Moon,” and be sure to watch the Halloween Kills film once it’s out in two weeks. Further, you can look forward to Ghost’s upcoming winter tour and, hopefully soon, a full album. As always, keep checking back here for all the latest Ghost news.
