Avril Lavigne – Under My Skin

Avril Lavigne 2004 UMS

Avril Lavigne's second album, Under My Skin, was released on May 25, 2004. Compared to her debut, Let Go, this album took more influence from rock and gothic styles. Writing with ex-Evanescence member Ben Moody helped lend that style to Under My Skin. The first single, "Don't Tell Me," was released in March 2004. It fared well, reaching #22 on the Hot 100, but the big single of the album was "My Happy Ending," released in July. The pop rock breakup anthem peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The third single was "Nobody's Home," out that November. Although it was a fan favorite, it only peaked at #41 in the US. "He Wasn't" was the fourth single around the world, though it was not released in the US. "Fall To Pieces" was a radio-only single in June 2005.

Under My Skin solidified Avril's pop rock style, and showed a darker evolution of her sound. She furthered her reputation for teen angst, but also earned her more respect.  Highlights on the album include "Take Me Away," "Together," "My Happy Ending," "Nobody's Home," and "Forgotten."
