Kelly Clarkson's debut album, Thankful, was released April 22, 2003. She had just won the first season of American Idol the previous September, and her two early singles - "A Moment Like This" and "Before Your Love" - had helped keep America excited as the waited for her first album.
The first official single from Thankful was "Miss Independent," and it became an instant hit. The second single "Low" didn't do as well, and the era ended with "The Trouble With Love Is" appearing on the movie soundtrack for Love Actually. Overall, Thankful was a mixed bag of styles, and it wasn't yet clear what Kelly was going to do with her career. The soulful pop groundwork had been done, and it was only a matter of time to see how that evolved.
Besides the singles, standouts on Thankful include "Just Missed The Train" and "Anytime."
